Carol of the Bells as an Actual Advent Hymn

Carol of the Bells has one of the most compelling musical settings among Christmas themed songs.  Unfortunately, the actual lyrics of the song have nothing to do with Jesus or His birth to the Virgin in Bethlehem.  This year I thought I'd rectify that by making some new lyrics appropriate to Advent.  The goal was to capture mood of a world waiting in pagan darkness for the savior.

Mankind enslaved,
To gods depraved
Serving their lies
Souls cannot rise

Heavens we stare
Lights are so fair
Want to appease
Master of these

Israel's light
In dead of night
Soon do they share
Savior declare

Adam, behold
Savior foretold
One seems to hear
Soon is the year

God's promised plan
Come, son of man!
Come, David's King!
(End suffering!)

World is waiting now
They cannot see how
To be free
Of idolatry

Lift us from our dark and lowly stations
Be the sacrifice of all the nations

True son of God
With iron rod
All knees shall bend
He calls us friend
